Going Home

Book 1 of the Alien Encounters Series
Author: Kim Welsman

Genre: Science Fiction

Going Home is the first book in the Alien Encounters series and tells us the tale of two women, Peggy and Lyrissa. Set in a dystopian future on earth, which leads not only into a vivid and spectacular science fiction story, but also the unfolding narrative of the two women’s personal journey and the way they go home.

Peggy is an alien, visiting earth and the Agency, a sinister corporation with hidden motives, is looking for her to use her special alien abilities to further its own mysterious causes. The Agency and the Guard are major features of the dystopian setting and add to the books atmosphere. Both of these organisations, the Agency and the Guard, want Peggy and her unique abilities.

The characters, in particular Peggy and Lyrissa, are well rounded and believable. The strength and quality of the female lead characters is a highlight and main feature of the book. Lyrisa, for example has had a troubled and traumatic past and now works as a clairvoyant for the Guard, who run as opposition to the Agency. She is naturally psychic, but to enhance her powers needs drugs – so she has strengths and flaws like a real human.

The book has just the right mixture of description and action for the science fiction genre. With mystery and psychics thrown into the book, we have one mighty strong literary cocktail. Eventually, after expiring the relationship between Lyrissa and the alien Peggy, she is hunting, we discover Peggy’s true identity, via the top secret ‘Star Gazer’ program.

The Alien Encounters Series is set to include two further sequels this year. The second is written from Peggy’s point of view. We’re taken to her alien world and find out more about her out personal quest and her duty. In the third book we will return to Earth and catch up with Lyrissa to see what happened after her encounter with Peggy and where her life has gone after her catharsis in ‘Going Home’.
